China launch resolves the car as the second-generation Seagull
Launch reporting from 20 October 2026 identifies the 4,205 mm car previously reported as Great Seagull or Da Haiou as the second-generation BYD Seagull. Preserve Great Seagull as this research route and historical label, but do not describe the launched China car as a separate model positioned between Seagull and Dolphin.
The launched China car is a larger five-seat rear-wheel-drive hatchback
China-market launch evidence lists a five-seat vehicle measuring 4,205 mm long, 1,810 mm wide and 1,570 mm high with a 2,650 mm wheelbase. It switches to rear-wheel drive and independent multi-link rear suspension, with 85 kW and 95 kW motor choices.
China battery, range and charging choices are market-specific
The two entry variants use a 30.1 kWh battery and quote 320 km CLTC range. Three higher variants use a 39.2 kWh battery, quote 420 km CLTC range and support a reported 10–70% flash charge in five minutes at suitable BYD stations. These are not UK WLTP or charging claims.
The current Seagull already uses different export names
BYD's own global material identifies the outgoing China-market Seagull as Dolphin Mini in some markets and Dolphin Surf in Europe. That precedent does not establish the second generation's eventual export or UK identity.
