A distinct Great Seagull has been identified for China
Reporting from the 2026 Chengdu Auto Show quotes Zhang Zhuo, general manager of BYD's Ocean-network sales division, saying the Great Seagull (Da Haiou) will enter the Chinese market in 2026. The same reporting distinguishes it from both the existing Seagull and the larger Dolphin.
Chinese regulatory data define a larger five-seat hatchback
China's July 2026 regulatory declaration data, as reported from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology catalogue, list a five-seat vehicle measuring 4,205 mm long, 1,810 mm wide and 1,570 mm high with a 2,650 mm wheelbase. The listed permanent-magnet motor has a 95 kW peak output and the certified maximum speed is 150 km/h.
The existing Seagull uses different export names
BYD's own global material identifies the current Seagull as Dolphin Mini in some markets and Dolphin Surf in Europe. That precedent is important because it does not establish the Great Seagull's eventual export or UK name.
